Health and Safety in the workplace

The aim of health and safety training is to increase your awareness of health and safety issues in your workplace with a particular insight into your own personal responsibilities. As a home care worker, you are entering individual’s homes you care for which may present hazards which may not occur in a formal workplace such as loose rugs, spills that have not been cleaned up and the placement of furniture.

It is a known fact that home care workers have in the past suffered injuries and illnesses from manual handling, slips, trips, falls and stress each year. It is your employer’s responsibility to ensure that your work environment has been risk assessed, various pieces of legislation set out legal responsibilities and the penalties for failing to meet them.
